Actually that Redbox concept is a very good idea and the price is right. But I've checked some boxes in New York City and most of them had no more than 400 titles available. No older titles.
Rapidshare websites offer around 50,000 titles for free.
Furthermore if HD streams well on your connection, I guess there's no need to wait for downloads because you should have a multi multi megabit connection.
My internet connection is about 14 mbps currently. It is a GREAT connection. I just get the movies from Netflix and Redbox and watch some of the titles but not everything obviously. I'm just building a collection of things that I'll get to someday.
With Netflix there are about 17,000 titles that are availble to watch instantly over the PC or via my Roku player which is plugged into my router and my TV via an HDMI cable. The HD streaming requires a pretty hefty connection. I have cancelled my cable subscription except for the very basic service at $7.95. Doing that keeps my broadband connection at $29.99 per month.
The Redbox locations I've visited do include older movies. The list can be seen at http://www.redbox.com. They are even starting to include Blu-Ray movies.

PATPONG RAID - Vendors take case to Lawyers Council

More than 100 street vendors in the Patpong area have filed a complaint with the Lawyers Council of Thailand, seeking its help to receive compensation from the Commerce Ministry.
A ministry task force raided Patpong last Wednesday, seizing products from vendors in the area identified by the US Trade Representative as one of the world's most "notorious markets" for pirated goods.
The raid ended in a scuffle between vendors and members of the task force.
Council president Dej-udom Krairit said his council was against piracy but authorities enforcing the copyright law must abide by the proper procedures and not abuse their authority.
He said the council wanted to see law enforcement officers use an approach that gives offenders a better understanding of the intent of the law.
"It's what law enforcement officers in developed societies do," he said.
Mr Dej-udom said officials found to have exceeded their authority in taking action against the sellers of pirated goods could be accused of infringing on the traders' rights. The officials also should face legal action.
The council issued a statement calling on the authorities to take into account the rule of law and relevant facts and circumstances in their enforcement of the law.
Intellectual property infringement is not a serious crime even though those convicted can be jailed and have to pay a heavy fine, the statement said. Charges against offenders could be dropped through the judicial process.
Mr Dej-udom said the copyright law required representatives of copyright owners to be present during raids and identify the offenders. Authorities could not simply seize all products sold by a trader.
"The question now is where they've taken the products," Mr Dej-udom said.
Officials involved in the unlawful seizure of traders' goods should be liable to criminal charges, he said. Affected traders have filed criminal complaints.
He suggested that sellers of pirated goods provide the council with information about Wednesday's raid so they could testify to police investigators in charge of the case.
Mr Dej-udom said Patpong traders told him men in black shirts in the anti-piracy task force did not show their identity cards. The men also seized goods by force without informing traders what offence they were committing.

Might be the wrong thread. Apologies if so.
A question. I'm visiting the LOS in July with my 16 yo son. He is eager to get his hands on a fake ID (or2). I know I shouldn't be encouraging him. But what were you like when you were 16?
I know they can be obtained in the KS road etc. Any ideas on quality & prices? Other suggestions. He needs to know, as I sure ain't paying. I do draw a line somewhere.
Your help will be appreciated by a spotty youth.

He's not going to find any fake IDs that will get him into bars in the USA. Most everything there are fake diplomas, fake TEFL certificates, fake press credentials, etc.
There were a few teachers busted in the last few years with fake TEFL certificates, that had been teaching English for a number of years...lolol.
There use to be the ability to get high quality fake passports, at between bt80,000 - bt150,000, but they were busted a few years ago after the bust of that high level Al Quida figure captured in Ayuttaya. That also brought down the fake passport ring.
So he can get a fake diploma, but not a fake drivers license. Most things are in the bt500 - bt1500 range.
But then again, if he has allot of money, and good connections to the real underground, it's hard to say what is really available.

I don't know about the UK, but attempting to use a fake id in the US can get one put in jail. Even with a reduced or suspended sentence, one could end up with a permanent criminal record. Most id's in the US have holograms, so not easy to fake. I find it hard to believe that a parent would condone such activities.
The fact that your 16 yo son is going to Thailand, and will likely get laid multiple times while there, should be enough.
Now, if you only need a fake id to get the kid into a MP in LOS, that is another story. But stay away from using it for drinking.

... your child's cost of failure in Thailand can be quite a bit more severe than his cost of failure back in your home country... think about it... this is not Disneyland... Thailand is not child-proofed... for him, OR you.

Sorry guys. You're missing the point a little.
I'm taking the little thug on holiday. I may slip off from time to time while he is sulking, playing with his iPod, but I have no intention of him joining me at any point.
He likes to go out with his mates in London, in particular to see bands. Most venues have an 18 age limit. I'm sure he will get an illicit drink. Perhaps you are right. I may be irresponsible, but I would rather he took his enjoyment in an organised & safe way, rather than on a bandstand in the local park with overproof cider & who knows what else.
As for getting arrested. That is very unlikely in the UK. The cops are more likely to confiscate the ID & make him sit in the back of the van until the band finishes. They have better things to worry about.
I'm sure some of you remember what it was like as a kid. He will do it anyway, no matter what I do. Just like we did. Considering that, look where we all ended up.
