Why do guys pay "permanent" barfines? Man, if she likes you, she'll just up from the bar and not put up with that kind of bogus shit!
Some bars will not let the girl back if she doesn't get the "buy out" money form the guy and may try to make it hard for her to work other places as well. So the girl will often try and get it out of the guy. In places like AW it also means that they can keep doing the shows (for which they get paid) when they want to while not on salary (and go with customers out of the bar if they want to).

I don't think she tried very hard. I stayed with NEP girls for months without going through that shit and I know others who've done the same. There are usually a couple of ways of working in the bar: the usual is salaried work where a girl has to turn up every day and she gets money for being there but another is freelance, where a girl doesn't get paid but can turn up when she wants. The girls I knew caught some shit from the mamasan, of course, but they didn't bow down to it.
A girl who looks like Fon has a certain amount of power because she can attract a lot of customers into a bar. Furthermore, she could work anywhere. Threats to make it hard to work in other bars are empty ones. Other potential employers will just look at her, note that she held down a bar job for a couple of years so can't be that much trouble, and make up their own minds. Either she didn't bother to try very hard or she got a percentage of the fine, I'd say.

Private Dancer rolled of the printing press this afternoon and the first copies of the book will be in Angel Witch bar tomorrow (Friday 28th) for sale.
It will also be in Asia Books and Bookazine from next week. AW and maybe a couple of other bars will have copies. Look for posters on display.
There is also a link to purchase online through Stephen Leathers web site. The free download has been removed however the first couple of chapters are still up.

The following was in this Sunday's stickman's column:
"On of the most popular gogo bar managers, Ricky, most recently at the helm of Angelwitch, has moved to Pattaya. Ricky no longer has anything to do with Angelwitch and has taken over at Diamond Gogo in Soi Diamond, Pattaya. The big move happened on February 1st. (will happen on the 10th, actually) This was another of those badly kept secrets that we were sworn to keep hush hush until it actually happened.
How will this affect Angelwitch? For some time now, some people have been saying that Angelwitch (like many bars) is not as popular as it used to be, though how much truth there is in that, I do not know. It seems to be pretty busy whenever I stick my head in the door. Ricky was a tremendous host there and this will be a blow to Angelwitch.
They had a busy bar before Ricky arrived as manager, but Ricky did attract quite a following of resident expats. Will those expat
residents who had followed Ricky around several Bangkok gogo bars now be so keen to frequent Angelwitch? This remains to be seen, but Angelwitch has certainly lost one of the most popular bar managers in the history of Nana Plaza. Ricky was always on the top shelf of bar managers, one of the best hosts a bar could have. Nana Plaza has lost a very good friend. This is certainly NOT good news for Angelwitch OR Nana Plaza which has lost just a little sparkle with Ricky's departure.
I imagine this will be a bigger loss to Angelwitch than the owners
may think. As for Ricky life will go (go) on. I wish Ricky good luck, and what is no doubt Angelwitch's loss is most certainly Diamond's gain."

Is Ricky the guy that goes on the mic just before a show and intervals and puts on some “voice” that somebody probably told him “sounds kool”. That voice always gets on my nerves to the point that if he did it more often I wouldn’t be able to stay very long at all.
Sanook269 – you sound quite the “Ricky” fan. Actually sounds like you are giving the guy a reference so he can put it in his resume, in fact saying he’s the greatest in the history of Nana is going a little too far with your praise….The popularity of AW as I understand it was simply due to the fact that it was the only gogo in Nana that had that sort of show. Rumour around is that a few other gogo’s in Nana are going to directly compete with AW seeing that there are a few ex-AW dancers floating around.
AW was recently voted as the most popular gogo in BKK. Take the show away and you would pretty much have another gogo bar with nothing exceptional going for it. Now if the rumour becomes true, it will no longer hold that drawcard alone. Once it loses that, their policies may be reviewed. The fact that they are losing some favour while they hold that drawcard should alone ring bells of warning (even you referred to the ongoing popularity of AW albeit with a qualification).
On my last trip, 4 of us went to AW to watch the show (2 farangs + 2 tbg’s). Sat down and 3 drinks were ordered and my girl didn’t want anything to drink STRAIGHT AWAY. She was told she HAD to order a drink “during the show”. I said no and it was explained that if she didn’t my drink would be charged at 150%. Girl and mamasan didn’t seem perturbed that my girl and I were leaving. So in demanding a drink, they lost a minium of 2+ drinks. When I go there I usually drink quite freely and was never aware of this policy before. On my next trip I will now make it my mission to sit there nursing 1 drink for the duration of my stay. So for the sake of “1 drink” in a group of 4 people, this is what they have achieved. How many others have been annoyed with the policies of AW??
What has this got to do with Ricky?, well “policies” are implemented/enforced by managers. With these sorts of policies annoying repeat patrons…how much of a “loss” is there to Nana and how much of a “gain” to Diamond agogo??

ALSO, it is common practice in the English language, when quoting another source, that the text be enclosed in opening and closing quotation marks. You apparently missed that also.
It is people like you, that hide in the shadows, lurking and waiting to dazzle the world with their mis-guided and purposefully malicious "wit" and "brilliance," that plague this forum and make it unpleasant for others to use. That is Matt, the owner.
I doubt that AW will change much as Ricky was not the one in charge of the shows.
Ricky also managed several other NEP go-go's before AW which is probably why Stickman gave him praise as being one of the best "in the history" of NEP.
