From my experience - based on outside LOS - the Isan girls are worth a visit. Most are natural tan with firm bodies, beautiful legs and are of calm nature at least at first glance.

So anxious to hear some report bro.

Frank La Rue,
In the end I didn't stay at Laithong Hotel but stayed at Nevada Hotel right on Chayangkul Road (the main road that cut across the city) - re: girls, not much of P4P action, there are a few Karaoke bars and 1 go-go bar near Pathumrat Hotel & Regent Palace. Mostly 6s and 7s looking BGs and not at all familiar with farangs - I didn't partake in carnal pleasures over there (most of the time I was with my Isaan friend-cum-teerak, who is an English teacher at a secondary school) but I was quoted 2K Baht for a LT. On the other hand if you have time and willing to put a bit of efforts you meet regular girls in any pubic places like Big C, Tesco Lotus or restaurant bars H2O - Swing Club. People over there are so friendly, maybe because they seldom get to see a farang; every where I went they stared at me while whispering sottovoce farang! - farang!
On one occasion I had a small group of youngsters following me arount Tesco Lotus to see what was in my shopping basket.

Isaan? Fantastic place - I loved it!

I'm in BKK as type this but I will return to Isaan in 10 days time to see the famous "Rocket Festival" in Yasothon.

I was at my TGF village and a 83 year old woman came to my TGF house to see her first falang. On that same visit my GF told me I was the first falang a young girl of about 16 had ever seen. There are still some Isarns in the small villages up country that have never seen a falang.

"regular girls in any pubic places like Big C, Tesco "

Sarge, guess you did a "honest mistake" talking of PUBIC places...sure you can find nice gals at Bic C or Tesco Lotus, but we are not really talking of vagina.....
Cheers to that!

I stay at the Nevada Hotel. Price 1000 baht a night with good buffet breakfast included. Good room service if hungry at night or day.

On the bottom floor is a massage parlor. Price was about 300 baht for 2 hours. They put you in a small private room and then on a few occassions I have got a good hand job but the place is pretty legit.

They have room service too. Go down pick the girl and then have her come up at what time you want and see if some baht will talk. 1000 talks big in Ubon.

Also go to one of the Tuk Tuk driver. They understand sign language, I mean men sign language. Show them the finger in the whole jesture and they will take you some where. One time to a parlor for 1500 and another to a spot where the girls were 300 for 20 minutes.

I love Ubon and wish I had more time to monger, but my Thai wife with me makes it so I have too sneak around.

Hey Sarge

How did you find Nevada Hotel for location? I am thinking of going over there for a few days (first time), and trying to work out the best location. Hotel thats close to shopping, food places etc by foot.... (tesco?) Does Ubon have any regular pubs/clubs? If so, where are they? I am having trouble digging up information...probably because they don't exist
Also - Is there any guest issues with hotels in Ubon?

I want to take some day tours as well, so hopefully I can arrange those through the Hotel.

Cheers

My personal opinion, your mileage may vary, but the more time I spend in the Isaan province, the more I am convinced that "sanuuk" is more Isaan than Thai. Don't see it in the Lanna ladies -- they are more staid and Chinese in their bearing. The easy smiles and general friendliness seems to be a very tribal thing up in Isaan, and in some ways, culturally specific to that area. I see it up there, and I see it when I interact with the various ethhic groups side by side down in BKK and environs.

So my advice, go north and do some exploring. UK Shaga asked on another recent thread for people to talk about places we dont' see on the forum much. I think there is a greater adventure in just hopping a bus and taking a gander. The people are far more curious and friendly, than hostile, and a smile and some courtesy will take you a long way up there.

Interesting post Balls...

From what I have read about Ubon, the simplicity and lack of western influence is interesting for me..so I figure it is something I should experience at least once.
As for the people, I think speaking Thai/Lao would help a great deal in gaining a better understandning of the local culture (I am slowly learning), but I guess that is easier said than done! Thats why I like to travel...I love to see what else is out there & face those little challenges

I'll post & let you know my thoughts when I return

Skippy,

Two visits ago I stayed at the Nevada and it was nice but it isn't located centrally. My last visit there I stayed at the Ubon, which was a much more downscale hotel but located in the center of town, it was clean enough and they had a movie channel in english on the TV. There was another hotel that looked better than mine that had a good location, it was called the Sri Issan, and was located near the river and right in the center of the out door eating area at night, and there was some good food there.

If you do stay at the Nevada or another hotel away from the center, there is a good system of truck buses that run from up there into the center, those cost 5 baht. If you stop by the TAT office in town they can give you a map with the route.

I visited most of the wats in town and also went out of town to Wat Nana Cha, or something like that. It is the wat where they have english speaking people who when I was there were no where to be found, but the temple complex was nice, its in its own forest (mosquitos!). I took a bus there and the lady at the cloths store on the main road gave me a ride back into the city. The national museum is very good, and the university girls that work there were probably the cutest girls that I have ever seen in my life.

I also visited Phear hear veharn or whatever its called, the temple in Cambodia that you access from Thailand. I took the bus from Ubon to kanthalak then rented a truck bus for 300 baht r/t so whe waited while I walked into Cambodia. It was pretty good, and the over look into Cambodia is fantastic. The key here is to let one of the girls selling post cards show you around. They know things that you don't and once you have them showing you around other kids don't bother you.

I did the massage at the Nevada one day and although I was pointing at a young pretty lady an old lady did me. It was OK but I think only hand jobs go on there. I have also visited Long Beach massage. It is locaed at the Pathumrat Hotel, underneath it, just follow the sign. I got there early and there were not many girls, but they do more than just hand jobs.

Its nice up there, have a good trip.

Great info Bob thanks!

I couldn't find any info on Sri Isaan on the net unfortuneltey. 'Ubon'....is that the 'Tohsang Ubon Hotel'?
This one looks ok for me...another alternative is the 'Laithong' Hotel...again It's hard to say if this is in the city centre. It would be nice to be able to walk down to the river as well...Tohsang looks like this is posssible.
Are they all guest friendly?
That trip down to Camodia sounds great...defintley want to do that. It looks about the same distance to Laos. National Museum is a must too
