This is a new restaurant (opened in May 2004). The reviews have been mixed. Have any of you partaken of the food here or the ladies in the bar out front?

The one in Brighton sucks and the one in Tripoli uses horse meat, and the one in Calgary the girls all have fat asses.
Other than them there three I love it, n'thinking of getting a franchise meself.

This restaurant in Soi33 is excellant if you want a great entertaining night and have something to laugh about in the future and to compare really bad restaurants to.
This would have to be the worst restaurant I have ever been to, the steak ordered was no thicker than Jokals brain, certainly thinner than his skin and if it measured 3mm I would be amazed. The lamb did not taste like lamb, looked sickly and was also very small. The side dishes looked like Maggie frozen veges and tasted like it as well.
And all this for a trumped up price that also brought out fits of laughter.
Even the staff new something was wrong and I think felt a little embarressed, they brought us free drinks and free desert to make up for the meal.
The one positive note, the bread was the best I had tasted in Los so far.

The thai food is passable, but only just. The bbq items are very disappointing... tough and dry. Pool party every Sat night usually gets interesting, with everyone in the pool naked... but the food needs a lot of improvement. Stick with the liquids. As for the girls, Ms Tik is pretty good when you get her warmed up... none of the others have enough appeal to try.

I tried it on a Buddhist holiday as the bars were shut in 33.
First impression was that a lot of money has been spent and they are ambitious. Outside is a sushi booth with full time chef. (Never saw anyone eat any) and a travel agent.
Inside the decor is bright, modern and quite OK with tiger prints and African themes emphasised. There is a large screen to show sports etc. and this proved to be quite intrusive until the rugby came on.
The drinks came fairly quickly and my draft Heine was cold and delicious but my lady's glass of house red wine was undrinkable. Not so bad as I am trying to get her to cut down on the alcohol. I had several more Heine's myself.
The ladyboy waitress then came, I think, to take our food order. My lady said she wanted a beef kebab. The ladyboy then wandered off. I was not sure if this was because she lost interest or she thought we could share a skewer.
10 minutes later, as I was fumbling for my wallet to drop a 100 on the table and walk out, the manager appeared. He was a South African by the sound of him, nice young chap, tall and lean. I told him his restaurant was crap but he would get one last chance before I walked.
I ordered the Bushman's tucker of pork chops and assorted meats.
Meanwhile I had a couple more of the cheap draft beers (49 Baht?) and then went on a wander.
Behind the restaurant is a swimming pool and rooms. You can rent one, must be cheap. Pool looked OK and it may be a viable proposition but I did not check the rooms.
The grill was quite big and well equipped and there were 6 people working it, including one young lady in a nice dress. I took her for the bar manager, toiling to prepare my meal herself. A lot of energy went into it and I was starting to warm to the place.
Back at the table the food arrived. My lady's kebab had metamorphosised into a stew. A pot of stewed dead animal, bush style, apparently beef. Now my lady is not one to complain but she told the waitress (older gen fem) that this was crap.
The waitress immediately apologised and offerred to replace it free of charge and she could also have the stew as well. My lady at this point would rather have left but was enticed to stay and eat.
Meanwhile my food arrived. the grilling was done to perfection, the meat was thick and juicy, the mash was lumpy, just the way I like it.
My lady's kebab eventually turned up but before that she tried the stew. Inedible was the nicest thing she found to say about it. Personally I like blackened tough roaBKill, takes me back to my days in Africa.
The kebab was acceptable.
The bill finally came to 800 Baht which would have been acceptable to me if the other things had been right such as service, ordering, food quality, wine quality, delivering the right meal etc. Needless to say after the wine and the stew had been knocked off it was a lot less, 400 Baht. Another loss maker no doubt. I had a lovely meal, my lady was fuming.
Overall this place had been open for 6 or 7 weeks by the time I tried it and it is in my memory as one of the top 5 BKK venues to not visit ever again.
A lot of money has been spent on an ambitious concept for Soi 33 but it is doomed to failure. They may have been too ambitious and are not concentrating on the core products, the African grill and the service.
Given that Blu BBQ is nearby and other restaurants with good service are around this area such as Biounjourno across the road I fail to see the attraction.
The targeted market segment would appear to be wealthy tourists and expats with a discerning pallet looking for something new. It was new for me all right.
My dear lady also pegged the majority of the waiting staff as worn out bar girls. Rumour is that the owners also own a bar across town so there may be some substance to this, certainly no waitressing experience.
High hopes and money are not enough in Bangkok for a restaurant. Standards are high and this restaurant fails to deliver on its initial promise.
Grade D-. Will have to do better and get new management and experienced staff, Basil Fawlty and Manuel would be a step up.
I am with RTB and MN, a disastrous restaurant which I would have preferred to have liked.
