Pards, Food Reports for December, 2004. I continue to patronize the same eateries I have been going to for the past seven years. DAIDAMON BBQ-Great food, but I always end up driving down the Hershey Highway for the next 24 hours. Well worth it though, but no anal antics with any TGs for a day. Soi Arab- 100% safe. I did not wear my Jewish Voters for Bush 2004 pin, my Whoopass 04 shirt, or my Peace Through Superior Firepower hat. All was well AL FERDOS-Run by the chubby and friendly Mohammed of Iraq. Order the Iraqi naan (just like my grandmother made), lamb kabobs, and Arab tea. Do not bring A TG because the Thai food is shit. NEFERTITTI-A lot of nice waitresses with titties here but no Thai smiles. If you meet the Egyptian waiters you will understand. Service is very un-Thai, but the food is great. Be real clear with your orders with the Egyptian guys. If the order is wrong, they blame you and declare jihad. It is a little annoying having to watch Al Jizzera, but sometimes they put on the Arab MTV and that is fine. The couscous with lamb is out of this world. I also like the Syrian salad (no radiation), the mixed lamb kabob, and the fresh baked bread are to die for. Down the subsoi from Nefertitti is a great Sharma stand. That is directly on Nana. It is great to watch life go by. Next to Nefertitti on Soi Arab (walking towards the Grace) is another very unique schwarma stand. This is Turkish style. It is different because the bread is not pita, but a crepe-like wrap. YAMAZAKI (Robinsons) -I have the strangest experiences in Thailand. 0The Yamazaki in Robinsons has two gems. GEM #1-Chocolate eclairs. Darn, I had at least two a day. My grandma (not the one that made Iraqi naan) made the best chocolate eclairs in the world. So does Yamazaki. The irony is that the only eclairs that come close are from either Yamazaki or from a couple of Chinese bakeries in Chinatown LA. GEM#2-There is a hot girl that works the counter every other day. She looks Isan and her uniform is a little to small. Very very friendly has the traditional Thai underbite. There is another white-skin that works the other day and she is as cold as the Oishi sushi frig. YONG LEE-Corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 15. I think this is the oldest eatery in Bangkok. Old man Lee must be a rich old bastard but Buddha bless the old coot for waiing when you pay your bill and tip him. In a decade, I have never departed from ordering either the Khao Pet or Khao Moo Daeng (or both at the same time), but I had to try his famous ravioli plate (deep friend wonton). The naam jiim sauce was great. Watch out for the rats!!!!!! FOODLAND SOI 5-It is amazing how much nostalgic American food is alive and well in LOS. This time I am talking about good old fashioned (fried in the same grease) doughnuts. Four years ago I had a dream about powdered-sugared jelly Bismarks. They are almost impossible to find except in Jewish bakeries during Channukah. This is also an Israeli treat. Foodland has them and they are great. This is not mention their tasty pretzel breads, chocolate crossaints, stolen, strudel, and sugar doughnuts. I bought a whole marble pound cake and scarfed that down on the plane. Bon Appetite.
