I had me one of the finest culinary experiences in my life last night. For 150 baht per person.
A TGF took me to Moo Ka Ta Bar-B-Q on Ratchada. There are no Roman letters on the sign, but it’s a big out door place, with a neon sign with a pigs head in the middle and the ceiling is hanging full of giant hearts. It’s a bout 2 minutes walk from the Huai Kwang MRT station – walking away from Caesar’s.
In the PI they would call this shabu shabu. Basically the idea is buffet of all kinds of meat, fish and vegetables that you cook yourself on a sombrero shaped BBQ. Take a couple of girls with you and they will cook your meat, mix the sauces, and prepare the soup. The food and the experience that goes with it are just awesome.
The prices are ridiculously low: 89 baht per person if you finish all (you can eat) your meat, 98 if you have leftovers. Sauces come at 5 baht a cup if you finish them, 15 if you have leftovers. But trust me, with these cunning Thai foxes, you won’t have any leftovers.
Dress lightly and sit close to the fans, as the BBQ, the spices and the general humidity can get you sweating quite fast.

Oh, Dude - there are similar places like that all over (or it's a franchise), as I've had some on my last trip -- that stuff is incredibly delicious, and extremely reasonably priced. I've had some in Udonthani for 59 Baht per person.
Damn good eating.

Not a franchise, just a concept type of restuarant; you cook yourself, and they somehow make money on it:
- Moo Ga Ta
- BBQ Korea
- Goong Ka Ta
- Nua Yahng Korea
Are all about the same thing. All these places are about the same price:
79 baht if no seafood
89 baht if there is seafood
I assume they make the money on the beer. Actually, one of my friends has a place like this, I should ask him how much money he has made so far.....
Watch for stomach aches though if you are a proper "farang" not used to proper Asian food.

I am Thai and I am afraid and always aware of many places selling 'moo ka ta' with bad hygeine since many of them are situated on sidestreet and they offer cook it yourself meat, beef, fish, pork bla bla, are laying out side in big trays like buffets, open air, with thai humidity and heat plus tropical flies, the cheaper the better? for under 100 baht, I bet the use the best part of the cow and I doubt how long they had been there for til I put in my mouth....

But also food in similar places inside shopping centres like Daidomon provides me with instant Aztec two-step not worse than Dotcom provides me after reading one of his posts.

yes mookata is all over the place in thailand ranging from 49- 120 baht. IN selecting one I use the same rules as for streetfood. Go to the busy one where you see a bunch of thais eating. Never have had any problems and I go quite frequently when I am in Chiang Mai. there is a really good one on the moat a few doors down from chiang Mai ram 1 hospital.

I tried this place the last time I was in BKK. This place opens until the wee hours of the morning. My friends took me to all the massage parlors around Ratchada and we ate with some girls afterwards. If you would like another great buffet, try Daichi's in Emerald hotel. It is five hundred baht and definitely worth it. They only open til ten. My only mistake was I gorged myself and wasn't able to do round two until the wee hours of the morning and I was lucky to pick up a girl at Huai Kwang night market.
