Hi guys just back from a one month stay in LOS.
I need to warn everbody out there about this place.
This place looks just like any other seafood place, all the fish crabs shrimps etc stalled out on ice, you choose want you want and they cook it for you any stlye you want. Normally cooking charges and services are quite reasonable, but at this place they charge trough the roof!I went there and was presented with a bill of 3.400 Baht for 2 people! that was at least 1.000 baht to much, looking at what we ate.I called in the tourist police, and they came, and they said, they could not do anything about it, because I did not ask to see a menu, in wich the cooking charges are shown!Anyway after ten minutes of argueing they knocked off 400 baht
and I had to pay 3.000 baht.The police also said if I had seen the menu beforehand I would have left this place.
they gave me some bullshit story, that they know this place is no good,bla bla and so one. this place has been doing this for a number of years. Why ? 1/the police are in the know and on the take 2/ this place pays kickbacks to taxi's and tuktuk 3/almost no thai customers in this place,mainly farangs,and other asians.
Stay away from this place if you don't want to get ripped off.

So you went to this restaurant and in your desire to be seen as a big guy you pointed to the juiciest looking lobsters, crabs etc, right?
You didnt ask about prices because that would have made you cheap, huh?
And then you squawk like a baby when the bill comes. She must have been very impressed.
Why didn't you ask for an itemised bill. Normally those places will charge for their food by weight. It would have been easy to ask them for the bill, wouldn't it? Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

Rule of thumb when eating seafood in Thailand... if it's not packed to the rafters with Thais or asian customers then avoid it.

ok guys I know I f***ed up, but I was tired and I did not want to sit in a taxi a long time (being traffic is hell in bkk) and I know Yaowarat is a lot better and cheaper.
I have no problems paying the 3.000 baht but I dont'want anybody else being ripped off.So I posted this.And by the way I went there together with my thai wife, no "sao num num" if you understand me.

there are a ton of seafood places I nthe area; next time just walk 5 minutes to Langsuan; better places there.
Quite a few of the westerner frequented places are more expensive. However, if it makes you feel better places like California seafood and the like the ppl (Thai Chinese) I go with sometimes end up with bills close to 20,000b incl. wine/whisky and all the food for 4-6 ppl. So... while not cheap your bill is not exactly outrageous.
Given the desire to tell you what you want to hear, the police were possibly trying to make you feel better and not to return; I wouldn't necessarily say the place is on any :take; it is a premium location and as such they need to pay for the place.
Go cheap on road side; in the suburbs; near the sea....at well we live and learn.
I cannot understand your sao num num phrase? Can you elaborate?

Do you mean Savoy Seafood in Suan Lum? If so, I have found this not too be bad place to dine... great for some curried crab etc.
Maybe there are other seafood places in Suan Lum?
