OK Bros!!
My trip back to BKK is cumming at the end of the month and I want to get some feedback about the Banyan tree Restaurant - Vertigo. I told my TGF I want to take her out for a romantic dinner and would like to get some feedback from your veteran's that have been there. I am looking for a restaurant that has nice atmoshphere...is romantic...and more on the higher end scale. Your comments, suggestions would be appreciated!

You can UTFSE and have tons of comments in an instant...
Banyan Tree is nice, expensive and romatic (as in "impresses her much") ) and so is Scirocco on State Tower... The later is also a bar wich might reduce your total damage (eat on the street=100 THB, drink in Scirocco 1000, 2000...) if you like...
Another idea is the "Distil" bar on State Tower Dome right next to Scirocco. R/h side after leaving the Dome's lift corridor. Nice bar and they have that open air mini Bed Supper Club...

I have been to Banyan tree 3 times, every time with a special girl. The view is amazing. You won't be disappointed. It is expensive but don't let that stop you from having a wonderful evening. If you or your gal are afraid of heights you may want to sit somewhere centrally. If you have big stones, have a seat next to the glass. I could literally feel the building moving from the wind. First dinner there was Dec 26, 2004......Same day as the Tsunami. All night, I could not help but "worry" about a quake. Have a couple of cocktails to settle your nerves and win the heart of your chosen girl. The waiters/hostesses will offer to take your picture, included in your bill. Open your mind and your wallet and you will have a night out you will always cherish. I know I did.

Richie, I took my Thai Wife to Banyan Tree on the last visit to Bkk, The Banyan Tree has got quite a few restaurants within the building, Vertigo is on the 61st Floor outside on the top of the building, Then the menu was mainly Europeon/English and very expensive. Are favourite is Saffron on the 59th Floor just downstair's from Vertigo, Saffron serves Top Quality Thai Food at half the price, also you the settings are a very romantic with a piano quartet and dim light's. We tended to go to Saffron for the food then just walk upstair's to Vertigo and use there Bar. Check Out banyantree.com/bangkok

Is there any special dress code for the restaurant/bars ?
I am worried because the standard (?) TGF outfit i.e. jeans & top may be inappropriate for these locations ?
I would probably wear cotton trousers and shirt, but no tie. What about the lady ?

Dresscode was for me and my GF:
GF nice eveningdress and high heels was ok.
I arrived in nice shirt and pants (black ones not jeans), was promted to use a blazer (borrowed from the wardrobe). No sneakers I think.
PS. keep an eye on the weather report before you go there, rain = :- (

Figure on 1,200+ per head for two courses... beverages not included. The wine list is outrageous, but you can bring your own.
