I understand the owner of the BBQ also owns Pickles on Soi 22. Some of the same girls work at the BBQ joint.

Yes the owner (Christo Daniels) is South African (hence the theme of the place) and is also the owner of Pickles. When he opened Timbevati he moved a number of the Pickles employees over to the new operation. He also owns (with partners) similar operations in Samui, Phuket.... maybe more. It seems like an odd place to launch a boutique hotel, but maybe they can make it work since they have done so elsewhere. The employees all seem to have a very positive attitude, but the food situation is in desperate need of fixing. Last time I was there, I was told a new "head chef" was in the pipeline...

Last week, we went here with DrLove, another friend, Dew, Sirtitus, and Angel (4 farang and 2 TGs). They had a special that was two full BBQ dinners for the price of one. We got the four dinners and also a couple of Thai dishes. We had lots and lots of beer (69 baht per glass). Total bill as about 3000 baht. Credit card was OK but the Thai food (600 of the 3000) had to be paid for in cash because they get it from the restaurant two doors down.
The food was actually pretty good and well prepared. The meat was tender and juicy and overall of good quality. Ribs, steak, lamb, pork and chicken. Very few side dishes, though. The four BBQ dinners would easily have fed six very hungry people. Half the food was taken home by Sirtitus.
They said that each person would have to order something (as in, no sharing). I think this is so that 8 people do not come in and order 2 BBQ platters. I may have misintepreted this. We didn't challange them on this, but we did a good amount of sharing without them saying much.
I would say it was a good meal - maybe they have impreved from previous reviews. Go there very hungry as you get a ton of food.
The most interesting part about the place is the huge swimming pool in the back behind the bar. I asked about this and they said they had a pool-party on Saturday nights. I need to check this out!
What about an informal BTF get-together here on a Saturday night? Everyone could bring TGs for swimming and fun, there are some girls that work here that would probably be up for a swim. Draft beer is 69 baht all night.

Anyone ever attend the pool party? What was it like? What time did things get going? Recommended? Anything?
I'll be in BKK next Saturday, was thinking about checking it out.

I would not describe the pool as "huge"... but it probably is the biggest one on Suk 33.  The "pool party" is basically a bunch of people doing what comes naturally around a pool when it gets drunk out... the girls "fall" into the pool, and then one thing leads to another until everyone is wet. Clothing is optional. I attended the pool event about 2 months back and it was great fun... however it was also a birthday party for an ex Pickles girl I was "dating" so the participation level may have been higher because so many of her old friends were in attendance.
Blood alcohol reached the right levels at about 11pm, and the first body hit the water about that time... this probably holds true every Saturday, but the new closing times may have impacted this. I don't think it would be necessary to go on a Saturday... any night would end up the same if enough like-minded customers were on hand. Like any of Bangkok's venues, the key is to invite plenty of women and then get them drunk.... note that if it gets busy some of the girls from Pickles usually show up.
The poolside area is a very pleasant respite from the roar of Sukumvit, and there is now a bar area that is open to the pool but also has aircon. There are a couple of pool tables in the back, beer pricing is fair (especially by 33 standards) and I suspect that this venue would make for a memorable Round Table. On several visits I found the food to be very poor, but I was also told that the cook from Violin had been recruited to manage the food program at Timbevati so things may have improved as CG indicates....
