Yeah I agree with the point about hi-so thai food... Many time I have clients in town and all the went to eat is "good thai food" well I want to tell them the best thai food is found on the street and will not cost much more than a couple of hundred baht in total. But that wouldn't go down too well so we go off to some susposedly hi so thai place or worse eat in a 5 star hotel.....and they order pad thai at Bt280++ per plate............ Thai food is cheep and should not be dressed up

Hey I love reasonably priced Thai food. Street food too. Abrak and Smegma had wonderfully obervant descriptions on the business style of the hotel class Thai restaurants. I guess the Thais say, if this is what the tourists like, we give it to them. To each is own. Sometimes I want to eat street food. Sometimes I like the hotel setting, however fake the Thai decor. There are merits in both styles. Please give me more intro to the local Thai food joints where they know serve great local food. Possibly a road name or shop name. Hey I thought some of you guys speak Thai and can understand the language - and the menu. There are some stalls just outside Europa Inn opposite ChaoPhraya2 along Sri Ayuthia Road. A mix of 4 stalls by the road, who do business at night. Good noodles, porridge, padthai. One is a drink stall. So popular with the locals the hawkers cannot cope with the demand. If you don't mind sitting by the road to eat, it is cheap and good. It really is street food.

This is pretty much the only restaurant in BKK that I will eat Thai food at nowadays. Extensive wine list, great food, attentitive staff, chic location.
