Cronulla sure has changed over the last 30 odd years,, I still remember when there was just one little fish n chip / hamburger shop on the beach with a pin-ball machine.
Summer salt has had some great write-ups in the local papers for quite a while,, should get off my ass and go down there. ( I live only a few km's away).
Glad you enjoyed your time in Gods own country ( Sutherland shire).

If you want to checkout a lot of the posh restaurants, I'd recommend stopping in a bookstore and picking up a copy of Thailand's Best Restaurants by Thailand Tatler. You can find it online at http://www.thailandsbestrestaurants.com/
I like going to a lot of the nice Thai restaurants that aren't in the book but the book is a nice and easy way to start. Family Moo Kaa Ta as Dr Love suggested is a tasty and cheap option but warning, it gets hot there with the hot coals heating all the tables up! 189 baht will get you AYCE seafood option as well.
My favorite dish is Kao Mun Gai (chicken with rice) and the Kaiton place in Pratunam is tops in my book. Check out http://cheapeatsbangkok.com

Grilled Sausage Tossed w/ Onion, Scallion, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Hot Chili, Lime Juice on a bed of Lettuce
It is one of my favorites, perfect with an order of kai jiaw & khao plao

I would say that my favorite restaurant I went to on this trip was Great American Rib Company, it sounds like some big corporate chain but its pretty chill....
food and atmosphere were perfect..well as perfect pull pork/slab of ribs as a southern boy can get in BKK 
Its on Soi 36 and chatted with the owner (Thai guy that grew up in the States) and he has 1 or 2 more around and is planning one in Patong as well...
other end of spectrum, I had my annual dinner with my buddy at Ma Be Ba on Lang Suan and, as RTB pointed out before I went, it wasnt as good as years before.

Talking about chicken with rice, For me a good kao mun gai is the rice, the rice have to have rich chicken flavor and texture. My favorite place in bkk for Haineses chicken on rice is a little shop across from J avenue in thonglor, not a fancy place but their kao mun gai is one of best in town.

I just don't understand why someone who comes here for a short vacation from the states would try to ferret out American food joints, so many good ethnic foods to be enjoyed here.

I am with you man...but my American/Thai buddy (that lives in BKK) took me there because he is friends with the owner and wanted me to check it out.
It turned out to be very good but I would never have sought that out on my own.
Besides some of you residents that ever want to have some pretty decent BBQ might not be aware of it.
*edit in* I know when I lived in BKK it would have been a nice find.

The Colesium at Sukhumvit soi 40 had been one of my favourite nightclub restaurant.
Heard that the Colesium at soi 40 has close down. Do any of you gent know what happened to this joint ?
Is there a new club taking it over ?

Its been closed for over a year. Don't think they're going to reopen. I enjoy Nahtong Seafood in Ming Jai and they have entertainment also.
