Strange because I had a bad time with this same place as well and it was not that dissimilar.
One of my smaller business concerns has a Chinese partner and he came into town for 2 days (in passing I believe and he wanted to stop over, his first time in Bangkok). He had a Bangkok tourist book in one of the Chinese dialects with him and he wanted to use one of the discount vouchers posted inside it. One of them was for a quite nice looking Japanese restaurant on soi 11 names “Uzuki”, I had never been there before as when it comes to Japanese food I prefer cheaper places like Sukishi, great food and lots of choice and better still, not expensive.

On entering we was treated like dogs that had sh1t on the floor, not a good start. The menus where thrown at us and then barked at us was our orders of what drinks we HAD!!!! to order. We ordered drinks and food and to be honest the food was ok, just ok. Anyway, the end of the night came and we asked for the bill, when asking we offered our voucher. The waiter asked us to wait, 5 minutes later out walked a late middle-aged female shouting at us that this voucher is not valid. We asked why? as it was within the dates on the voucher. She said it was not her restaurants voucher and any problems with this should be directed to the tourist book we obtained it from. I then asked, (in Thai) “This voucher has the same name and the same soi as yours, are you now telling me that there is another Japanese restaurant with the same name and looks the same as on the pictures on the voucher on the same street?”, her reply was, “I do not know but no discount” I noticed when walking in on a board outside that if you are a HSBC premier card holder you get discount. I asked after we got turned down for our voucher, “what’s the discount for a premier card holder?”, her reply was “that offer has now closed”, I asked “why have you not taken the sign down”, Her reply, “we do not have a new sign, so we use this one”
We left without discount and none so happy. The food was substandard to ok and the service was krap if not rude. The loss of the 10% discount was not the point really in my mind, the point is there was 2 ways of getting a better price which was I presume was the attraction for my Chinese buddy and to have it thrown in our faces 2 times almost insultingly was not so good. To add to this my Chinese chum got food poisoning and spent his second day in Bangkok in bed. He does not eat airline food and had nothing to eat that whole day except for the food in Uzuki.
It seems to be a common policy at this place to advertise discounts and then not let you take them up on there offer. I personally will not advise anyone to go there and I will not go there again. If on a small forum like this 2 separate people have near to the same experience that is enough for me.
Thanks Jojje for the heads up, at least I know now for sure it was not my bald head that put them off giving me there supposed offer.

It´s good to see that at least some people here seem to understand what I wrote - which in basic was to WARN other forum members from having the same negative experience! Thats all! And in reply to that you get this "dr love" guy coming back at me and obviously not able to read or understand what the letters say. Pathetic and one may wonder in whose interest he is going on about it?
Or is it just that "dr luv" thinks he is the greatest thai "know-how" in town?? Laughable. If you one day clear your goggles you may see that I did in fact tell the President management what had occurred and they would take some action since it was NOT THE FIRST TIME this crummy place cheated their visitors! Do I need to write it in a larger font? Do you think it is ok that they cheat visitor after visitor? Just a simple yes or no to that question would be claryfying! Dont play that "this is Thailand" bs that some people always use in order to explain just plain stupid behaviour. I happen to know where I am and think that at least we can choose where we decide to place our money. If this "drlove" chum thinks it is not a good idea to stay away from cheaters - well he is free to use them as much as he can. I and others will probably choose to take our business elsewhere. Maybe this is too logical?
Also note that the OTHER 6 places taking part of this promo is no problem at all and they are happily giving you the discount when showing the room key card. I can especially recommend the German Place. Friendly and good grub.
I have also decided that as from now I know it is absolutely no meaning to enter any tips, reports, warnings or other useful info on this forum. So I will never do that again. As others have noted it seems this forum has seen it´s better days and nowadays seemingly taken over by a group of people who like to use it as their own little playground. Ok - no problem at all for me. I will just stay away and leave it alone. There are so many "experts" here anyway it seems. What do I know - just a measly 33 years experience in the country - of course I can add nothing useful!

And Doc Luv it's acceptable behaviour to call a poster an "idiot". With UK Shaga report this apparently is a marketing scam by the resteruant. Doc can you admit you were wrong? I recall another poster reminding you about glass houses. You filling in for your friend?
BK, the Doc drives away the author of many informative posts/threads and long time BTF brother. Funny for the last week BTF has recaptured pleasent days of olde then the Doc starts in.

Totally agreed. This is supposed to be a friendly kitchen where all are encouraged to participate and be welcome not Dr Luv's hotter than hell kitchen. I am sure I am not the only one put off by Doc Luv and his "opinions". I cant tell you how to run your board BK, and you have certainly done an awesome job always, but lately Doc Luv has been taking away far more than he contributes in my opinion.

There is no 'right' or 'wrong'. We simply put our opinions on the board. And, remember, these are not always, as in this thread, in agreement with the poster.
The arrangement is between the hotel and the restaurant. This could been have solved by the hotel management if you pressed for results. Jojje obviously didn't....

I am a regular, every month at the Grand President and in fact made a reservation this morning. The 10% discount at Uzuki is still listed as a feature. I often have lunch at this place and I rather enjoy it. When I am back in two weeks I will ask about the discount before I order. If they say no I will choose to stay or leave but no surprises at the end.
I find the food quality here to be very good and much like Japan. There are some notable exceptions that are definitively Thai but I like that too.
I appreciate being forewarned Jojje. Based on past experience I would have expected the discount without checking first.
