No sopapillias here but.....
I went to the Boubon St Mexican buffet this Tuesday and I was very satisfied. Good enchiladas, taco tray, chicken fajitas, salad..... 250B/head.
I will be back.
They also sold some Italian sausages that we took home. We have not cooked them yet, but they look better than what we can get at Foodland, Tops, Tesco or Villa.

This is a GREAT mexican restaurant, nice decor, located in a nice hote, the Rembrandt.

HEED THIS WARNING: If you don't mind MUSIC SO LOUD that Ozzy Osbourne's stage manager's head would explode, GET HERE EARLY. The live band plays DEAFENINGLY loud music, with huge amplifiers and it's simply awful. As a 29yo guy who does like loud music, I warn you it's unbearable. We've tried sitting far in the back, and it's just as bad. You cannot talk, you cannot think. I couldn't help but smile at them with a look on my face like 'are you serious??'... I get there early before the band starts playing (I forget the time, I want to say 6pm), and it's all good. We usually leave the moment the band starts playing and smile like 'thank God we're out of here' and the staff smiles and looks at the band also like 'We hear that ALL the time!'.

Great food, aweful atmosphere. Attentitive staff.

Mr Alan
I suppose if you have never been to the American Southwest or Mexico, Senor Pico at the Rembrandt is OK, but I think it was completely forgettable. In Texas, they shoot people for serving "Mexican food" like that.

In Lone Star country they shoot people for a lot of things. They can also out party most North Americans. Never met a Texan I didn't like, nor one without a gun.

I've been to both the Bourbon Street Cafe all-you-can-eat buffet on Tuesday night, and the same buffet at Senior Pico on Wednesday nights. Bourbon St is 250 baht a person; Senior Pico is 999 baht including all you can drink margaritas, or 699 baht without drinks.

Much to my surprise, the Bourbon St cafe had a bigger variety of Mexican food (desserts excepted). You could make your own tacos and fajitas, and grab lots of other Mexican snacks. The limited variety at Senior Pico tasted incredible, but they lacked what you needed to make a proper fajita, or even a taco. The salad and dessert bars were great, but when it comes to value, Bourbon St cafe wins, hands down.

I also concur with the previous comments on the volume of the music at Senior Pico. The volume is near deafening and you won't be able to hold a dinner conversation without screaming. If you're dining alone, its great, but if you're going with friends, don't bother unless you don't want to chat with them!

I'll definately be staying away from Senoir Picos then. I thought that the buffet at Bourbon Street was nice for Thailand, but pitifully small. I cannot imagine how you could have a mexican 'buffet' and offer fewer choices than that.

I've been about Asia a good bit now, and in some not so favorable shithole cities. While I relish most all non-insect based Asian cuisines, I turned into a bit of a foodie (as a matter of survival) in search of comfort food - Mexican, BBQ, Cajun, Soul, real burgers, etc. Most all of us hit that wall at some time.

Mexican food in Asia is a rarity; good Mexican food (which for me means TEX-Mex) non-existent. The staples of Mexican cuisine, beans and milk products (cheese, sour cream), are traditionally not a part of Asian diets, so Mexican food is not particularly tasteful to Asians. Mexican restaurants have a tough go in Asia and are highly reliant upon Westerners in need of a 'fix', so rare finds.

As an alternative to Senor Picos (which I think is okay only), I recommend Charlie Brown's. Opened December 2004 on a side soi just off Sukhumvit Soi 11. Easy 5-minutes walk from Nana BTS - 02.651.2215.

Owned by a Brit-Thai using recipes from an American from Kansas, who opened in 1990 and eventually closed the original Charlie Brown's at Town-in-Town - he subsequently decamped Thailand and left the mantle to the new Charlie Brown's owner.

I believe Charlie Brown's is the best in Bangkok - better than mere 'get you through the night Mexican'.

As all Mexican food joints here in Asia, it is California Mex, but us good ol' Texas boys make do with what we can get until we can get back to our local cantina and properly prepared cabrito.

Give Charlie Brown's a shot - you will not be making a mistake.

Other alternatives about town include:
1. El Charro 02.934.2106 (while I have not tried it) ;
2. Larry's Dive 02.663.4563 (limited selection)
3. Senor Pico's 02.261.7100 (reviewed above)
4. Bourbon Street 02.259.0328 (just 'get you through the night' quality)

Also, Larry's Dive sells jars of jalapeno peppers which are pretty darned good.
