Zanzibar for me is a big STAY AWAY these days! Quite sad really since they initially had a good setup. Great chef whom I spoke to evertime I wanted that special pasta made exactly my way. He never missed. Other dishes excellent as well. Service was good.
Then they sold it to some bonzo. Went there again (stupid me) and was terribly disappointed. Food a shadow of what it had been. Service crap. Stayed away for about a year. Dumb ass me gave them a test just last november - and again they failed. They are just not up to the standard they try to make themselves believe they are in. And of course expensive! That could be acceptable if food exquisite. Which it is not. So forget this place!
If you are in that neighbourhood you might instead go down all the way on soi 11. When you see a 7/11 turn right. 20 meters on and you see a smaller Italian named Piola if my memory doesnt fail me. Quite good and with a totally different pricetag! Ol "mama" is sitting at the cashiers desk and overlooking things. I have had many good meals there - and a few bad which I told them - but in general you wont be disappointed!

La Piola was good a few years back. Now it is a complete scam...
Limoncello on Soi 11 is still one of my favs for pizzas. However this place is really crowded and noisy

I went to Zanzibar the other night (before reading Jojje's post) it was okay for me. The food was good, portions a little small and the price is up there. Still looking for that Best Italian Rest. I will try some of the other suggestions like La Piola and Limoncello.

Went to Pomodoro (Between Soi 7 and 9 in Suk at the Nana BTS Stop) last night. Food was good, service was good. 1000 baht for two people with no drinks.

Another advice which I think is valid - Contrazi also on soi 11. Was good once - but now is also a walk by. Sad to see that so many places - not only in Thailand - start off good and then go south. I always wonder why. If a place is good and have repeat customers - why not take care of it and make sure it remains good?!
I am always on the hunt for a good Italian. There is one which I am trying to remember the name on. It is located on a subsoi to suk soi 23. Will be back as soon as I recall it! Small but great. The italian guy running it is a real character and they also got a very good review in the papers some year ago. Not much help now I know - but I will see if I still have their card and edit in.

pizzeria da luigi on 25. homemade pasta are fantastic. nevermind the pizza. great lunch deal, 300 baht, chose a starter and a main from the menu, plus small dessert and coffee.
for pizza I go to basilico on 20.

There's a very upmarket place on Thonglor or Ekkamai, its above the 'Mini' car dealership, can't remember where exactly, its very high price, but absolutely fantastic in all aspects.
