If I remember correctly, Argentina restricted its exports of beef in 2006 as a means to keep local prices down, hence the difficulty to find it and higher prices abroad. A pity, as the best beef I have ever tasted was also from (and in) Argentina.

That is correct. Most exports of Argentina beef went to the EU, and cattle prices in the EU are are at record highs due to the Mad Cow disease problem in the UK. Argentina has frequently had serious inflation problems, and the restriction of beef exports is designed to slow it down a bit.

Quote: from ThaidUp on 8:45 am on Feb. 4, 2008 Do you know of any places that serve Argentinean beef in Thailand?
I remember Livingstoneīs in soi 33 used to sell (so they said) Argentinian beef. I do not know nowadays. Havenīt been there in years. I remember it used to be good value, but didnīt really make me remember the beef from steakhouses in Buenos Aires. As BK mentions, Madison is a good choice. I remember liking the ribeye there a lot. Expensive though. This is "vacio" my favorite Argentinian cut: http://www.asadoargentina.com/vacio-flank-steak/

There is an Argentinian tenderloin available at the eponymous Tenderloins on Soi 33. Just had one last night, in fact. It was fine. Much cheaper than the Marriott. I find that the Argentinian is generally the best steak available at that restaurant. It is consistent. The others, the New York, T-Bone, etc,. are hit or miss. Sometimes, they knock it out of the park. Other times, the cut is poor, and no amount of inspired grilling can compensate.

I know that this is in Singapore but if you are passing through I have been told that you can get Argentine beef at Carnivore, the Brazilian Restaurant in Vivo City...

The Carnivore? Hmmmm.... that reminds me of the great meat restaurant of the same name in Nairobi. A must for meat lovers. Do not miss it if you ever go there (nowadays not the best of times).

EPC don't confuse Mel with logic and facts. What are you stupid? I think we need to take Mel out for a nice dinner of a Texas steak, Idaho potatoes, French wine and desert of French cheeses. Speaking of cheese heads, what kind of idiot brings his own meat products through customs?
Back to Topic BEST steak I've had in BKK was at Sofitel, brought my own Aus Wagyu beef, medium rare, mushroom gravy,,,YUMMMMMM
Did you declare that Mel or just smuggle it in?

I wonder if Mel knows with whom the African slave trade originated? Maybe a google of the term "Triangular Trade" would help. I would continue, but I need to try and wedge a side of beef into my luggage for an upcoming trip.
