Thanks for remindin' moi about that. Sure HP is a butty's best friend. However, I must admit to some sacrilidge here, a little pickadillo......tada...<lights flash>... <drum roll>....I prefer Heinz salad cream in my chip butty! There I've said it. I've come out of the cupboard at last! Phew, that's a relief, all these years of repressing the fact that I like Salad Cream on my chips.

On the advice of this message, I tried the soi 23 Fish and Chip shop last night and have to say that it was the best F&Cs I've had since leaving the UK 14 years ago, including any place I'd been to in Oz or NZ.
I took the tirac with me. We ordered two portions of cod, a portion of chips and two fishcakes and smothered them in salt and vinegar. Instead of eating in the place (it looks well dodgy) we went and ate them over a beer at that bar at the top of cowboy and watched the freak parade up there.
A wonderful experience. I remember thinking that this is what being in Thailand is all about.
I'll certainly do it again. Piece of wonderfully cooked cod 140 baht. Chips 40 baht. Fishcake 40 baht. Don't be tempted by the snapper at 90 baht. A F&C purist knows that the only acceptable fish for F&C is cod, haddock or - for those deviants out there - plaice.

All I can say is...Huss (/Rock Salmon/Dogfish). OK, two things, the other being...you can't fully enjoy F&C without a wally.

Is that a pickled onion? If so, I have to agree. I think soi 23 has them. It also sells pies, mushy peas and even battered sausages.
