the best food I ever tested on my last trip was upstairs resturant over foodland on soi 5. Great food for very reasonable price. Foodland is also good if you are in hurry to grab some bite and don't want a wast too much time on food 
I think it's called Thai House, or something like that...
One good thing about it is that (at least last year) it was open late. Last time I ate there, my girl du jour finished work at about 11:00PM, and as I didn't know her very well, I wanted to take her to a sit-down, quiet place to eat. It was the only place we could find, and the food was OK.
Of course, she would have preferred street-cart food..., but that came later ...

Entrance is right next to where the money changer is. Left side of the foodland court. Or if you just stand at the entrance and look up, you will find it. Good thing about this resturant is get a window table and you can see all the actions while enjoying your spicy curries and fish. Also you can see falangs and tgs going in and out from Amari hotel who said its not friendly hotel.

no doubt mentioned here somewhere, and also out towards Rhamkhamheng way, but GLASS HOME would impress any TG, and not expensive, also of course good old Bow Gung Pow on ratchada, the rear part, indoors, country bands is the best area.

I am sure there is a mention of Woodstock in here somewhere but !
What a great bar in the middle of all the debauchery. Good food and no hassle. One good pool table and one average its the Nana chill out zone.

THere are some great places close to Siam Sq. Nai Lert Seafood Market (accross from Amari Watergate Hotel) is excellent and also relatively cheap (LObster for 80 Baht 100grms). One by One seafoof is my fav. They also give 15% discount (and often throw in som free prawns if you bargain well enough
