The wine problem is really the only beef that I have with Thailand. It is far too expensive and the selections most places are very limited. In Bangkok Oldtimer shops at a place just across Sukhumvit from the JW Marriott called WINE CONNECTION. It has about the best selection around and often more reasonable prices than Foodland or Big C. Thank the Lord there is also a Wine Connection store at the Del Mar Plaza near Laguna close to Oldtimer's Phuket abode. For a chap who needs a least half a bottle of drinkable wine with dinner, Oldtimer always take his own to a restaurant....and where he is known, Oldtimer is never charged corkage.

I worked for Chateau De Loei wines, and its probably the best Thai wine, but still not very good. As for the statement nice wine for 200 baht, I should rephrase and say very drinkable. Cheers, atl

That was the one I tried,, Chatau De Loei,, was very much better than I expected. My previous statement about 200 BHT and quality being conflicting statements was in regard to "imported wine",,,,,,minus taxes etc etc etc it would have to be a 60 Baht wine at origin. There is a glut of wine here in Aus at the moment driving prices down,, but even with that you are still looking for 300BHT + (retail) for something half decent. With the Aus-Thai free trade deal wine tarrifs dropped from 60% to 40% and wind down to zero over the next 8 years,, so things are looking bright for Thai wine drinkers.
