A quick report on several restaurants that I have visited in the last week: Love Scene (Soi 23) : Still a good place to eat for the money - except when you are taking several hungry bar girls who can run up the tab. Tasty food, open very late. Seems to have lots of locals and some tourists during lunch. Cabbages & Condoms (Soi 12 past Darlings) : I was unimpressed. Nice atmosphere and very nice to look at - but that was all. Food was not very good (chicken was dry, other dishes very bland, soup tasted mostly like water). And not cheap at 1,000bt+ for 2. Only fun thing were the condoms instead of mints at the end. Miyuki (forget the exact name and left their business card in the room - the Steak Restaurant in Patpong I past Queen's Castle I) : Excellent value for the price. T-bone steak (thin, maybe 1/2 inch, but tasty) for 165bt. Comes with mashed potatos and vegetables. Many Japanese in the place. Service a bit slow, but once again hard to beat the price for the food. (I ordered medium rare and got medium well, so YMMV. Hard to get med rare with a 1/2 inch cut). Been there 30+ years so they must be doing something right. MBK Food Court: Same old same old. A place to go when you are hungry and don't want to look around. Not expensive - fed 4 people for 300bt including deserts with change left over for the toilets. Might be hard to find a seat since always crowded. Siam Paragon Food Court: From my one short visit, not any different from MBK - except it is harder to find a place to sit and eat. I passed Suda's (just into Soi 14) on the way to Cabbages & Condoms and it was packed. Should have tried it instead. There's a Chinese Restaurant between Soi 18-16 on Sukhumvit that is reasonable for the price. Has roasted ducks hanging outside along with dim sum. Inside is typical chinese seating (basic) with many dishes you can order. I got the roast duck and various dim sum. Not San Francisco or Hong Kong, but decent.

I tried a new one yesterday, people been mentioning for ages, but I'm just never there at meal times. Central Chitlom, The Loft, a food court at the top, Indian, Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese......lots of variety, good value and nice surroundings. Another negative report for Cabbages and Condoms....shit restaurant.

One of my favorites is the open air buffet BBQ place on Suk near Soi 71 (Pra Khanong). If you get off the Skytrain on the south side at the Pra Khanong stop, then walk west in the direction of the Onuut stop, past Soi 71, it's right there on your righthand side. I go there every once in a while with my TGF. It's a walk in and seat yourself place. They have those little BBQ things on the table (you see 'em at Korean BBQ houses too), and you get all you can eat, meat, vegies, and rice dishes, at the buffet table. They even have desserts. You cook the meats yourself at your table. They occassionally come around to change the coal. They also have a too-loud bad band that plays about every night, and the Thai's love it. Not many farangs at this place at all, mostly locals. The restaurant is owned by a former Muai Thai champion who put some of his winnings into the restaurant. A nice change of pace if you want to "go native." - Balls

One of my favorite meals in BKK was always the SOS at Madrid on Patpong 1. Get a couple of fried eggs on top and the cholesterol would immediately shut down any arteries you had open. It was good at any hour. -------------------------------------------------- retiredintahoe: Could the steak house have been named Mizzou's Kitchen? It's been on Patpong for years and always had a decent steak.

expat Probably Mizzou's. Upstairs and downstairs dining - we ate upstairs. Went with Dr Love and got their business card - but I think I left it in the shirt that went off to the laundry today.

That's the Yong Lee. Open 11:30am until 8:30pm. While taking note of the name, ran into TPE II. He was on a stakeout. I was good cover for that stakeout, so we chatted for a while. I've never eaten in this place, although I have seen it many times since I've stayed at the Manhattan a lot. TPE II said cheap, average food but looks a bit dirty. YMMV.
