With all the great food in Bangkok what I miss the most is a good quality breafast early in the a.m. All too often I go for the 5 star hotels for a good breakfast but I really would like to know about any "coffee shop" atmospheres with bacon and eggs. Not foodland with that sorry breakfast but ala a coffee shop in the US with quality food and open early such as 6a.m. Anybody??

It's interesting that there are no responses to this - I guess it means such places are few and far between. The best english breakfast for my money is Gullivers on Suk 5 (not cheap at 160 baht) but that doesnt open until 11am. There is a good place at the Saladaeng BTS end of Silom Road, quite close to Burger King. Sorry, but I don't have the name handy, but they are 'set back' from the pavement and have a couple of outside tables. They do a variety of English / American breakfasts and I think they open early in the morning. It's certainly open when I wander past at 8am most mornings. I can't comment on the full English breakfast, but I've had a very good Eggs Benedict there in the past.

The best breakfast not at a 5 star hotel I have had is in Pattaya. Soi 6, The Sportsman. Great sausage, big thick toast, coffee included for about 130B. In Bkk, Jools breakfast was ok but the 3 ham slices were wonderful; soft, thick. Coffee was a separate 60B so it came so 155B. Jools is an small English style pub on Soi 4. I have not tried the big Irish/English bars near Prom Phong yet for breakfast; Robin Hood, Bull's Head, Londoner and Dubliner. My guess is their breakfasts are good but I cannot speak from experience.

The Old Dutch, at the far end of Soi Cowboy, has a decent full breakfast for 150, but I don't believe they open until 8 or 9

On of the best Brekkies I have had in Bkk is in the Black Swan by Asoke exit 4. But again they don't open till 10-11:00am. Then there is the Swiss Grottino Restaurant off Soi 19. I think they star serving at 07:00am. May be earlier!!They have awsome bread made in their own bakery...Yummy! Then there is O'Brians on Sukhumvit by soi 5! Open 24 hours. They serve steaks, but to be honest I have never eaten a breakfast there. TC

I'll challenge anyone. You pay, I'll eat. If I fail, I'll pay. Taxi and 30mins between venues (challenger pays). No Chang 'till I finish and then you pay for the two or three bottles I can drink before I feel ill...
