I've known that one for a long long time now
one of the troubles with Thai society is that they have no honor.
I can probably count on both hands the amount of Thais I would really trust & believe their word, & that's after 15 years in the Kingdom
what's funny is, they consider it ok to lie to a Falahng to get money from them, but they do it to themselves as well, to their own family members even.
a friend of mine is constantly being being f***ed over by TGs because he is so desperate to have a girlfriend
one of them wanted driving lessons, so he took her all around in his own car & when he got out to get them some drinks at a gas station she took all the money he had in the console of his car.
I told him it was damn foolish to have thousands of Baht in the cubby between the seats, & now he keeps his money in the bank & just hits the ATM like the rest of us.
another time he had some gal call up & say she wanted to spend some time with him, so he drives her & her friend around, pays for their lunch & then when he's "dropping off the friend" at the local shopping mall, the original gal gets out too & says she needs to get something, but never returned.
she he wasted his time sporting these two around & paying for their lunch, for nothing.
no big deal, but it was just a huge waste of time & of course he got used big time.
just recently some gal in a restaurant, that is really more like a karaoke brothel, one of the gals in there told him she liked him & all the bullshit that goes with it. So he actually took the time to go pick her up at her apartment & drive her to work the next day, to which she pretty much demanded he stop at the restaurant for dinner where they charged him 120b/hour to sit with this glorified cook & of course she wanted some LD too.

almost forgot, about the first one that stole the money from the car. He knew that gal for a long time, knew where her parents live, & even knows her brother.
So he goes to her parent's house & the brother agrees that it's a f***ed up thing she did.
The parents then say that they've not seen her for weeks, & that none of them have any money to replace the money that was stolen.
He considered going to the police, but he doesn't know the woman's REAL name, only her nicname, which isn't too unusual.
Figure the odds of the parents giving up her name, as they were crying for him not to go to the police.

LY, you are right, it is always a good idea to be a little cautious in the beginning, and not trust anyone until you have good reason to do so, which generally speaking takes a lot, and I mean a LOT, of time. Don't be an ass, and you won't end up feeling like one 
But there are liars and scammers all over the world, not just in LOS. And the trick is to avoid them wherever you go.
There are, however, more scammers and liars and in certain places, and the P4P world (even in LOS!), tends to attract its disproportionate share... Which disqualifies pretty much most of us on this forum from speaking generally about what TGs are or are not in terms of honesty attributes.
Let's try to remember where we are playing gentlemen, and not get too jaded. Because, as LY says, f***ing crazy chicks, and P$P chicks, is a lot of fun. Just don't judge the whole country, or the whole world, by the last girl you f***ed, or who f***ed you over.

I've found the lying & bullshit is not confined to P4P folks only.
It's a nationwide phenomenon.
Once I knew a guy who was the new General Manager of a company in Rayong.
He had a policy that if he discovered an employee was lying, he'd fire them.
after about 3 months he had to change his policy because he was tired of having to hire new people EVERY week.

I find it hard to understand thai culture, and to me they seem to lie a lot more than my own culture does.
But that's maybe because I know my own culture enough to know when people are lying.
'Does my bum look big in this'?
'Do you like my new hairstyle'?
'Do you think I am hotter than my sister'?
Who hasn't lied about these? Who hasn't lied to their boss about their boss's taste in music, or clothes or whatever? Who hasn't agreed with someone of seriously high social status? What if that person might just take out their wallet and, for no good reason whatsoever, slap a month's salary, or ten year's income, at you (things which happen quite often when a thai is talking to a farang!).
Lots of times, thais will say nice things when westerners would not. If they are untrue, is that lying, or, like the above examples, being nice?
When we see a billionaire old guy back home going out with a hotty, and doe-eyed in love with her, do we think she likes him the same way he likes her? I mean, maybe she does. But, 555, maybe she doesn't.
When some guy back home has girls hanging off him, getting access to a lifestyle they crave, again, what do we think?
So, when your girl, who is hotter, slimmer, younger - and substantially poorer than you, says nice things to you as you go doe-eyed, are they lying? Or just being nice?

Well, the billionaire old guy does not really care if the young girl love him real or not, It is a business deal, he provide the money and lifestyle, she provide the fun. When the money run out so does the girl. The girl understand the rule of the game, and I hope most of the guy on this board does, as well.

... the answer is: yes... she is lying... she is ALSO being nice.

... a much more difficult standard of behavior to which to live, but I believe a world in which there were arguably far better quality of men and women, capable of raising themselves up to a better quality of life, upon which their children were also raised up... which I consider one measure of cultural's values.
... so... here in Thailand, we enjoy the fruits of people with poor values... but, we are also exposed to the lying and deceipts perpetrated by the TGs (all of 'em actually) on us... all because we want so desperately to be young again.
... seems a fair trade to many... but, geez, wouldn't it be nice to be able to drop the defenses... to return to a day when we could be totally unconcerned about leaving the door unlocked, the handphone on the bar, or the wallet in the taxi... to be able to first assume a person we just met was honest, and would not deceive, cheat or wholesale rob us blind.
