Last week TG911 outbound from Heathrow
Saturday's TG916 inbound Heathrow.
Both painted up in Star Alliance(boring!) colours !
A small Thai logo on the fuselage and this daft five
pointed pyramidal star and giant 'Star Alliance' painted
along my favourite mauve orchid and white aeroplane.
I hope they don't tamper with the uniforms,in flight service and anything else ?

I have heard that sometime in the future that Thai,Lufthansa,Varig,United etc etc will merge into
a single carrier althought they may superficially still
carry national colours ???

I flew Thai airways a few weeks back , they were also called Star Alliance , at the check in, the Air Canada sign was displayed etc.
On the flight the uniforms were the same , service was good as usual.
Peace.

Mr Alan
A merger of all the airlines is unlikely due to many factors, including that some airlines receive government assistance (permanently) and others do not. This causes anti-trust problems in some countries.

The different wage scales and union contracts would also cause a problem. Finally, United Airlines is still operating in bankruptcy, and it is not for sure they successfully emerge from bankruptcy as a going concern.

But some of the Star-Alliance airlines already have code-sharing and other marketing agreements, besides just the frequent flyer miles program.

There are other such alliances such SkyTeam (AeromÈxico, Air France, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air) and OneWorld (Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair,Iberia, LanChile, Qantas Airways).

KLM seem to be part of another grouping.

Code sharing for the moment .

Time will tell.

Thai Airways have always been checked in at LHR by Air Canada.

No change there.

They have no groundstaff.

BA and Qantas have been code sharing for at least 4 years on the BKK run.

Thai have ordered Airbus A340-500's and 600's
The 500 is a shorter body very long range version of the 600 which is the longest airliner in service.
With the A340-500 Thai want to fly USA-Thailand non-stop.

A friend who drives flying machines has flown on the A340-300 and 600. He says the 600 series is very smooth. I have flown on an SAS A340-300 and rather liked it so the 600 must be the 'business'.  I particularly liked the individual TV screens in economy. The staff were also excellent. I may have been lucky but I would recommend SAS any time. My favourite is still Thai but I wish they would have the mini screens in economy. Many a time I have wanted to switch-off Julia Roberts in some boring film. EVA Airlines I was also impressed with. I flew their business seat but economy meal service- very good. Suming up:-
1) Thai
2) SAS
3) EVA
4) Lufthansa

I wont comment on BA !
