so that means for me that it is a term that is being used in modern times.
as for the car import, I have checked it carefully about a year ago:
1. submit letter to customs bureau, with car details and pictures.
custom official will determine value of car (value in Thailand and not overseas). if you agree than you will be able to import the car.
car has to younger than 5 years or older than 20.
2. you ship the car to LOS. (2 will fit in a 20" container).
3. when car arrives at the port you will be notified and pay by cash or bankdraft:
80% import tax
41% excise tax
7% VAT
that's it.
I looked into the matter. it's not worth it.
I can buy a 3 year old porsche boxter in japan for usd 16 to 20'000.00. but in thailand it will be valued for usd 150'000.00.
do the math.
your car would not be suitable, since it is to old or not old enough.
