As a 20 year regular, I can second these observations... the present scene does not remotely resemble what it was even 2-3 years ago.
While SOL was at one time the acronym for Star of Light, it now means Shit out of Luck...
No one regrets these developments more than yours truly, but fact is fact....

I do agree with you Skip in that a famous part of the character is gone. I was sad to see certain changes that the police enforced. Because I have been going for years, things may not really have changed for me--I do the same as I always have, and so does the staff.
Either that, or if you read back through my posts on this thread (including the one which you quote from), I think you'll find that I've gotten used to the changes very well indeed, very well 555
So I figure... others can too. And looking through the thread it appears many have.
I would be gratified if the info/accounts I've posted are of use/entertainment to guys who have never been there even now. And apparently they are, some guys post saying it was their first time there and they loved it, others try it and didn't. If I played some small part in someone's enjoyment in any venue I've enjoyed, that's great. But bottom-line is, I don't represent this bar or any other, and I agree that there is no one place for everyone and not everyone for one place.
Anyway, without being facetious, I do want to point out that I don't believe my post above was bashing Dr Love, though perhaps I was depicting a satirical situation. I find a lot of humor in the whole p4p scene and my (and Westerners') (perhaps fictional) reaction to it. Or maybe that's just how I have learned to deal with my reactions to a vast subject I enjoy, but which is so different from the attitudes prevalent in my place of origin. I have often enjoyed your informative Silom posts, Skip, and if you feel that my last joke happened to be at your expense any--as you were in DrL's party and shared the judgement he pronounced--it was unintentional. I think that's clear. And I wouldn't expect Dr Love to do anything but laugh when, or if, he reads it either.
Also, of course the post of mine which you quoted above was in no way an answer to him, but an unrelated post replying to an earlier poster--which I have justified a few paragraphs up.

Sorry but I also feel that it is not a species of logic that even if it's granted that Star of Light is not as fun as it used to be... that doesn't necessarily make Kangaroo any better... or does it?
I've had a few memorable times in Kangaroo and have been there about 8 times. Maybe that's not enough. Over all I wasn't as enchanted with their pricing structure, the gimme-drink attitude of some of the ladies, and especially (drumroll...) the not very talented blowjobs of many of them. Most were eager and kind in the backroom, but I didn't experience them as being as talented as the girls at SOL still are (in terms of BJ skills).
But someone else may disagree. There was a whole thread recently about BJ preferences and everyone had a different opinion.

Good question. What has Kangaroo got? If the Kangaroo thread were bigger, maybe that question could be answered. But, alas, it isn't.
I haven't been to Kangaroo bar in more than a year so I have no idea... nor do I really care.
