No they are not. They constitute the very essence of the country, its specific charm, its...soul.
I am sure that you will find that I e Singapore suffers far less of the negatives listed in your catalogue aria. but does that mean that we should prefer Singapore and maybe move over there - we have just concluded that Singapore is that much better? Well., I won't.
I think the reductionist way of listing the negatives like you do - reducing the image of a country to the sum of its parts, tend to miss the essence of the country, it's very soul.
After many years here my impression of the Thai people is that they genuinely love being Thai,and they experience a genuine joie de vivre which should be the envy of most other people and they a sixth sense about how to relate to other people. And most Thais would never describe other country in such an uncompromised negative way as is done in your post.
Or did I misread it - I often do on the internet?

where the wrong impression is formed is the "other Thailand" that most board members here only know-

To talk about the "real" versus the "fake" Thailand makes as much sense as debating whether Vegas and Times Square are the real America or not. The truth is both yes and no. But even more than the US or a handful of other countries that I can credibly claim to be intimately familiar with, Thailand fascinates me no end with its contradictions.
It is these contradictions above all that the outsider has trouble grasping. A country where prostitution, in one form or another (for it is far more varied in LOS than anywhere in the world), is generally accepted, and yet where TG friends of mine are too shy to even let me kiss them goodbye on the cheek.
As for the good and bad, there are of course both, like anywhere. It is only paradise in its illusions. But the good so far outweighs the bad that I hardly ever sweat the small stuff. Those who do, have, IMHO, lost their perspective and should be forced to spend a few months punishment in Geneva or Cleveland.
As for me, LOS only gets better the more time I spend there, even if I tend to spend most of my time roaming the Times Square of 1974.
