It's pretty good, especially on Wednesday nights (Ladies Night). It doesn't have a live band, so not quite the same as Spasso, and drinks are definitely a lot cheaper there. Plus, you get lots of Russians there.

There's BASH on Soi 11 (above Australian pub), they just celebrated their first anniversary. On soi 11, there's also Climax, though that place is just too noisy for me.

This weekend the military started its crackdown on 2am closure laws, targeting Patpong, Tong Lor, a few other areas, with lower Sukhumvit expected to be targeted next weekend.
They are making it clear to police, and owners that sticking to all laws is their priority, and the law states 2am closures for everywhere serving alcohol. They are also looking at mobile bars, as to legal licenses, and shutting down, with possible confiscations of those not licensed to sell alcohol.
Any club opened past 2am is now a target, and those inside could expect drug tests, and thorough identification checks, with heavy fines, and jail time for the owners.

Actually it was Thaksin, but not to control his kids. It was to control, and benefit from the lucrative night time drinking by designating entertainment zones, with set boundaries. He was setting only three of them in Bangkok, and one in Pattaya, with everything outside those zones forced to close at 1am, and the club's very important sitting licenses in jeopardy outside those zones (the sitting license is the all important license making it legal for employees (prostitutes) to sit with customers) His zoning never completely materialized, but the areas were drawn up.
Thaksin's wife just happened to be the one buying the whole bar beer area that used to be on the corner of Suk, and Asoke, next to Soi Cowboy. It is not clear how much of the soi Cowboy land was involved it the deal, but some was, and also why NANA plaza was not going to be one of the zoned entertainment areas.
It is interesting that the zone in Pattaya covered Walking Street, but only one side of it, and not the side toward the water.
