It saddens me to have to agree with you about the New York Steakhouse at the Marriott, jonstroud, but you are absolutely right. Well, I think not about the hotel itself -- you're being a bit harsh there -- but the steakhouse is indeed a disgrace and a local rip off of monumental proportion.
I think the name is a reference, not to the steaks, but to the prices. I have a discount card for Marriott that gets me 50% off for two people and the place is still so expensive for its average qualitity that all you can do is shake your head.

As a result of this research, it is apparent that some believe the best steaks in LOS are those that are cooked at home.... preferably the cattle are actually raised at home as well and then butchered on order.
Absent of that luxury, it would seem likely that all imported beef must be frozen to arrive in a condition that would allow it to remain edible. I am not in the food industry but just making this assumption.
I admit that JW NY Steakhouse is steep in its pricing but for this type of food, I think all places are going to be expensive. In addition to expensive food, they make very good martinis that are deep dish and guaranteed to make you forget about how much they cost.
I enjoy the food there; certainly like flirting with the female wait staff that are great eye candy and until I am able to afford my own cattle ranch, slaughterhouse and BBQ, will manage my expectations with what I get and the price I pay.

Those who enjoy NYS will find Prime (at the new Millenium Hilton) to be an almost exact clone... right down to the bread that comes baked 4 different kinds in the same ceramic vessel. One of the oldtimers from NYS is the mamasan (?). The menu items are nearly identical, except that a source of U.S. beef apparently fell through so at this point they are only offering Oz.... but the ribeye was as good as Oz beef gets, and huge.
Killer wine list, but only north of 3K/bottle, so (as usual) BYOB. Spendid view (Prime is on the 3rd floor, with glass walls overlooking the Chao Praya). Service was a little spotty, but nothing too alarming.
Access via free shuttle boat from Taksin Pier or River City (pier #1) every few minutes.

I also think the Polish head waiter from NYS went there. This is the type of guy who will meet you one thousand times and still never acknowledge you at the next meeting. But have heard the grub is good!
