On my most recent visit to Thailand a TG introduced me to what I think is nam prik. However, she pronounced it as nam tim. Does anyone know if they are the same or two different things. All I remember was her squeezing a lime, adding some chili and something else in a little dipping bowl. Man it was good.

I think it traditionally goes on fish, but I especially liked dipping a piece of steak into it. Nice and spicy. Probably good with fried spring rolls too.

From the below website:

In Thai, "nam" means water and "prik" means chile, so nam prik is chile water. In Thai cuisine, nam prik appears at nearly every meal. Just as with salsa, which can play a wide range of culinary roles and encompass all sorts of ingredients, styles of nam prik stretch from simple dipping sauces to chunky, fish- and meat-studded concoctions.

I stongly recommend you try a little on your next visit.

Naam prik is a very generic term.

There are many many versions of it for all different occasions....over a 100

also many Naam jeem's....my favourites being naam jeem Jim jiew....awesome with steak. Naam jeem gai is a very popular one, but too sticky and sweet for me.

Salsa though is a very loose comparison

I recommend you Naam Prik Maeng Da.

Thanks for the tip Yurune. Could you please tell me how to pronounce Maeng Da so I can order it next time I'm in country.
